SwiftKey's New "Neural Network" Text Prediction Is Impressively Good

SwiftKey announced its neural network keyboard back in October of last year, but it’s finally being released for everyone. Instead of looking at the last couple words in your text, SwiftKey now analyzes your entire sentence to guess what words you want to type next. It also suggests multiple words that usually belong together, such as “to be,” and can understand the context of what you’re typing. For example, if you type “Let’s go to the,” it can guess by the context that you might mean “beach.” The video above explains in more detail how the neural network approach helps make predictions better.
The keyboard’s predictions will learn over time, too. So the longer you use it, the better it should get. Personally, I’ve used Google’s stock keyboard by default for years, but after typing this whole article on it, I’m sorely tempted to switch. You can download the newest version of SwiftKey from the Google Play Store now.

Google made some cute advertisements for Duo, seriously they're adorable

There's been some commercials for the Nexus devices over the years, and recently some ads for Google Photos, but nothing much else. Google just uploaded a series of ads for Google Duo, their new video chat application, and they're absolutely adorable. Check them out:

There's a few others at Google's YouTube channel. I hope that Google will start to air these on TV soon, to help with its decreasing popularity on the Play Store.

Just over a month ago, Action Launcher 3 beta received an update that introduced some of the Nexus Launcher featuresfrom the leaked .apk that had been floating around to get them in the wild and people testing. Over the weekend, only days before the name of that launcher changed to Pixel Launcher, Action Launcher 3 received an update in the stable channel with not only a bunch of features from the beta, but a handful of improvements on top of them.

Here is a list of all of the new stuff:

  • Add two new Nougat inspired folder presets (requires Android 4.4 or later).
  • Quicktheme support to customize the color of folder icons.
  • Add tinted dock background with full color customization via Quicktheme.
  • Option for caret (^) style page indicator.
  • Add rumored Google “pill” widget.
  • Add rumored Nexus Launcher style Date widget, which can be configured to load a custom app.
  • When setting a wallpaper on Android 7.0, you can select whether the wallpaper applies to the lock screen, home screen or both.
  • The wallpaper picker app can be configured.
