#Samsung #Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ launched in #India

Samsung just launched its flagship Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones in India, as it had promised. These phones were announced last month and pack a 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch Quad HD+ infinity screen, both with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front and the back. These also have Iris scanner on the front, on the back there is a fingerprint sensor as well as heart rate monitor. These are water resistant up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes with IP68 ratings.

These also have Bixby AI assistant with dedicated hardware button that promises more personalized experience to enhance the way people interact with their phones and the world around them, but the Voice feature will be available later. These phones also have Samsung Pay.

These are are priced at Rs. 57,900 and Rs. 64,900 respectively and will be available for pre-order exclusively from today on Flipkart and Samsung Shop, and goes on sale from May 5th.

#Google #Earth 9.0

It took two years, several hyped rumors, but the revamp of Google Earth is finally here. The app, which had been stuck on version 8.0 since October 2014 with only incremental updates in the meantime, has jumped to version 9.0 with plenty of new things to check out.

First are the 50 new Voyager guided tours which marry storytelling, science, and other info to showcase interesting perspectives of our planet. There are beautiful sites, historical locations, fun experiences, and educational content to raise awareness about some of the challenges facing our world as we know it.

Second is the new 3D view that lets you experience the feeling of almost being at the location you're viewing, flying over and discovering every nook and cranny, whether it's a gorgeous landscape or a bustling city.

Then there's more, like the new knowledge cards for places, the 20000 curated locations that you can randomly jump through with "I'm Feeling Lucky," the new postcard sharing capability that sends a link with the exact location and exact angle you were looking from, and the different home tours that let you discover traditional homes around the world.

The new Google Earth will be accessible in Chrome through earth.google.com/web over the next few days (it's live for me already) and the 9.0 Android version should be live to everyone on the Play Store. But in case it isn't, you can grab the file from APK Mirror. iOS and other devices will follow later.

Earlier this year Google brought Virtual reality (VR) support for to Chrome offering fully immersive experience with Chrome and Daydream-ready phone and Daydream View headset. Now it has brought WebVR on Chrome to Google Cardboard, so that anyone with an Android phone and Cardboard can experience VR on the web.

It has also launched WebVR Experiments that showcases experiences developers are already building. “Each experiment shows shows something different you can try in WebVR,” said Google.

NEW #SAMSUNG COMMERCIAL

 Samsung announced quite a few new devices yesterday at its Unpacked event including the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus as well as a new version of the Gear VR headset. With the official reveal behind us, it’s now time for Samsung to start spending some money to promote its new devices to consumers all over the world.

The company has just released a cool commercial that’s very well made and quite funny. It shows an ostrich, a flightless bird, that accidentally puts on a Gear VR headset with the Galaxy S8 inside that runs a flight simulator.

The ostrich likes what it sees and immediately starts believing that it can fly. After trying for some time, the bird finally succeeds and takes to the skies. The commercial then ends with a great tagline that reads “We make what can’t be made, so you can do what can’t be done.”

The commercial really is great and we’re looking forward to seeing more of them from Samsung soon. Especially the ones that will be focused mainly on the recently announced flagship smartphones. For those of you who don’t know, LG also released an interesting commercial for the G6 a few days ago, which is definitely worth checking out.

#Facebook’s #Messenger Day

Facebook has a new feature for Messenger users this week, rolling out to all Android and iOS devices. Called Messenger Day, it allows users to share all their happenings into a Instagram Story-like roll of videos and photos. 

If this sounds odd, that’s because it is. You see, Facebook owns Instagram and Instagram has Stories. The features of Stories and Day are basically identical. Users can snap a photo and add stupid stickers, or take a video and add stupid stickers or neon-colored text to that. Once you have something you think is worthy of sharing with friends, you post it to your “Day,” which can then be viewed by anyone on your Facebook friends list.

The real difference is the interaction FB hopes to take place between people, which is something not pushed by Instagram. While you can comment on a post via Instagram Stories, Messenger Day is about talking and meeting up with friends.

Here’s the complete rundown on how it works, should you be interested.

How It Works

1. First make sure you’ve updated your Messenger app so you have the latest version.
2. Open Messenger, and tap on the camera highlighted with a sun to celebrate this launch. Doing so drops you right into the full-screen camera. Or, tap the “Add to your day” button at the top of your inbox to get started.
3. Snap a quick selfie or take a photo or video of what’s around you.
4. To add art and effects, tap the smiley face icon in the top right and then tap to add to your photo or video. You can also add text over your images by tapping the “Aa” icon, and you can overlay a drawing by tapping the squiggly line in the top right corner.
5. Once you have your photo or video the way you want it, tap the arrow in the bottom right corner. You can then add directly to your day, save it to your phone’s camera roll, and/or you can choose to send it to a specific person or group of people. The photo or video that you add to your day will be viewable for 24 hours.

#Smash Mouth's 'All Star' with #Windows XP sounds

Either your nightmares or your dreams are about to be realized with YouTube user James Nielssen's bizarre remix of the Smash Mouth hit "All Star" done with Windows XP sounds. It kicks off with the memorable XP error sound and soon rolls into a nutty version of the song that will bring back sweet memories of you yelling in frustration at your PC.

The real star of the show here is Clippy, the much-maligned digital assistant shaped like a paperclip with googly eyes. Clippy floats across the screen, multiplies and begs us to end its suffering. Mercifully, the video, posted Friday, is only about a minute long.

Nielssen is hitting the weird "All Star" variations pretty hard on his YouTube channel. He also released a version where the words are ordered by their Scrabble scores and one where the vocals keep getting higher as the backing track gets lower.

And who could forget his video of "All Star" where every single word is "somebody"? That delightful monstrosity racked up over 2.7 million views. The Windows XP tune has topped 500,000 views so far, which is also exactly the number of people who got the song lodged in their brains on a never-ending loop.
